Educational Wooden Toys

Plastic children's toys may dominate the market these days, but for the traditionalist there are still wooden educational toys around. Wooden toys can be of greater quality in the eyes of some, and may have an interesting feel for the child. However, it is unlikely that a child having wooden toys has any educational advantages over plastic.

However, some of us just "like" having wooden toys, and are prepared to pay for them if and when available.

Displayed on this page are just a few examples of modern wooden toys with educational value. The first one (top left picture) is of a set of magnetic wooden letters; 52 letters in all, as upper and lower case are supplied, which is an important consideration when teaching an infant.

The next picture (above left) is a wooden jigsaw puzzle. With each piece labelled, such puzzles can be a good teaching aid for young children as they are helped to set out the puzzle in the wooden tray.

The final picture (left) takes us back to the all important alphabet again, this time in wooden blocks and with numbers included. Coming in a neat wooden storage box, this is an excellent teaching aid, with the letters and numbers varying in colour to enable you to use the opportunity to teach colours at the same time.
