Cheap Baby Shower Favors by Crafting Your Own

Handmade baby showers are often far more appreciated than the usual store bought variety, and they're also completely unique and can really add a special touch to the entire shower. Most all of us know at least one crafty person, or would be able ourselves to make cute favors that will not only be personalized but also save us a considerable amount of money.

Favors that are useful are always the most cost effective as it's essentially a waste of money to buy something that may be adorable, but is unusable or will be forgotten soon after the shower is over. Use plastic baby bottles or booties filled with jellybeans or other small treats, or empty baby food jars also filled with goodies, wrapped in ribbon and decorated with stickers or labels that you print yourself and glue to the jar.

Washcloth lollipops are incredibly easy to make and really look cute when they're finished. Simply roll a baby washcloth in jellyroll fashion, then roll again into a tight circle and secure together with a small safety pin. Wrap the "lollipops" in colored cellophane and slide a popsicle stick up into the center and tie everything together with a pretty piece of ribbon made into a bow.

Make tiny "rose bouquets" from colored baby socks, green pipe cleaners and green florist's tape, and the colored ribbon of your choice. One sock at a time, roll them up starting at the toe and working to the cuff, then folding the cuff halfway around the rolled sock to form a "petal". Slide a pipe cleaner into the bottom then wrap tightly with the florist's tape to secure in place also adding some to the bottom of the "flower" in order to keep it attached to the pipe cleaner.

Whatever type of baby shower favors you decide to make, much like the invitations, you can personalize them using card stock, pretty colors and fonts, and cutting tags out with craft scissors and attaching to the favor with colored ribbon.

As far as the other important aspects of a baby shower are concerned, such as the food and drinks, the games and prizes, decorations, and of course, the location, there are also countless ways to stay within the budget but not compromise on quality or appearance.

Consider having the shower in someone's home rather than renting a hall and ask everyone to pitch in to make the food or snacks. Depending on the time of day the shower takes place, you may be able to serve simple items such as coffee, tea and cookies or other small treats, or punch, finger sandwiches, and a vegetable tray as there's really no need to have an elaborate meal when having a baby shower.
